A Container Garden

Yesterday we finally got around to planting our container garden. I’m a little nervous, but excited to get back into gardening even if it’s not as big and wonderful as I’m used to. We picked up two tomato plants, orange mint, basil, cucumber seeds, and yellow squash. I did end up planting the cucumbers in a raised mound in the ground. Cucumbers are just meant to be in the earth. Eleanor sort of followed us around and pulled up all the marigolds I planted. Oh girl! Sometimes there is no reasoning with a 13 month old. We all had fun playing in the dirt though. Of course I didn’t get any pictures of the final set up.

Heat Wave

Last week North Carolina was hit with a major heat wave! I couldn’t believe we had to turn our air conditioner on May 1. In Chicago we would wait to the very last minute before turning it on. Usually sometime in late July when the humidity and powdery mildew set in on our garden. But I have a feeling North Carolina is another beast entirely.

My mom is in town so Nathan and I were able to run some errands together last week, too. First stop: pick up a pool for Miss Eleanor. Oh she was so happy when she saw us filling it up. As much as she hates to get her hair washed she loves swimming. I honestly have been waiting for the moment she could play in the swimming pool by herself. It’s just such a strong memory from my childhood – my brother and I frolicking around in the cool water on a hot summer southern day. I think we are going to be spending a lot of time in the back yard cooling off this year.

Pretty Little Things

I’ve had an interesting burst of energy the past few days. So I’m taking advantage of it. I baked, cleaned my closet, went to the farmer’s market, and even threw together two decent meals. Though Eleanor still wants nothing to do with broccoli. I’ve also had an itch to sew but I’m waiting to find out what sex the baby will be (Tuesday!!) before I commit to a mobile project.

Here are a few photos from the past couple of days. Farmer’s market goodies, Rodadendren blooming, and baby girl.

Little bits

This pregnancy has brought a whole new slew of symptoms my last one did not. One being I cannot breathe at night! I was blaming it on the house we live in or the fact that our bedroom is upstairs (what?!) but I’ve decided that it’s a symptom of being pregnant. It also means I’ve been waking up with sinus pressure headaches.

I’ve had two strangers notice I’m pregnant. That always makes me smile.

Also, today we had some new friends over for a cook out. They have the sweetest 9 week old son, and Eleanor was beyond happy to be in his company. She’s going to make an excellent big sister. She has been so social and cute lately always waving at other kids, talking to them at the grocery or in our yard. She needs playtime! I signed us up for two separate Meetup groups hoping with my work schedule we can make a few playdates.

Here’s a few pictures from Instagram from the last week for fun.

19 weeks

This little baby bean has been moving a lot lately. Mostly in the evening I’ll get a quick little nudge as if to say, “hi, remember me?” Oh, yes baby, I do! In the quiet moments I start thinking about the future. The moment we lay eyes on our baby for the first time. That delirious state of elation and exhaustion and pride post-birth. Staring at their face by the moonlight between two hour feelings. And now new possibilities as well, like Eleanor becoming a big sister, THE big sister. Some days I think much isn’t going to change, and either days I have no idea what we are in for.

I guess that’s where the fun lies, though.

Eggs!

Eleanor had so much fun On her Easter egg hunt Sunday. I didn’t have to even show her what to do. I love this like chickadee.

Birthday Party

We had Eleanor’s birthday party on Sunday. It was a beautiful chilly day that turned into a beautiful sunny day full of love and family. Miss Ellie was a bit quiet and fussy most of the day (she wanted me to hold her most of the day and by the end of it mama could barely walk!) but that’s the reality of toddlerhood, right? She loved playing with her cousins, riding in her car, getting cuddles from her gramma, aunt, and uncle. And of course she was in heaven at the first bite of her birthday cupcake! Now I will let the photos speak for themselves.
